Wyatt’s Take

  • Trump commuted George Santos’s federal prison sentence, releasing him right away.
  • Trump compared Santos’s case to Democrat Sen. Blumenthal’s false military claims.
  • The move draws lines about fairness and who actually gets punished in America.

President Trump announced he signed a commutation order for George Santos, releasing the former congressman from prison immediately.

Santos began his time behind bars in July after a judge gave him an 87-month sentence for wire fraud and identity theft.

Trump posted, “I just signed a Commutation, releasing George Santos from prison, IMMEDIATELY. Good luck George, have a great life!”

The post also called Santos “somewhat of a ‘rogue’” but said he wasn’t alone in making bad choices.

Trump drew a sharp contrast to Sen. Richard Blumenthal, saying the Democrat falsely claimed for years to be a Vietnam veteran.

Trump wrote, “His War Hero status, and even minimal service in our Military, was totally and completely MADE UP. This is far worse than what George Santos did…”

Santos was sentenced in April to more than seven years in prison and ordered to pay over $373,000 in restitution.

The former congressman also must complete two years of supervised release.

Sen. Blumenthal has denied the allegations, calling them “completely deceptive and distorted.”
