Wyatt’s Take

  • Trump’s focus on foreign policy draws fire as Americans feel inflation’s sting.
  • Supporters say global deals will mean better days at home.
  • Experts warn ignoring everyday struggles could hurt at the polls.

President Trump is spending more time building peace abroad and locking down tough trade deals than tackling rising bills at home. This has some folks asking if he’s lost sight of regular Americans’ worries about paying for groceries and gas.

He pulled the U.S. out of global groups like the Paris Agreement and WHO, demanded NATO allies pay more for their own defense, and shut down some foreign aid programs. But he’s also taken the lead in high-stakes diplomatic talks and sent disaster relief to the Caribbean after deadly hurricanes.

“That typically is what happens in the second term for a president, but it has an impact. People don’t really give a s*** what’s going on in Europe. They care what’s happening in the backyard. And the president needs to mind that as he’s thinking of the midterms.”

Some Republicans warn that focusing abroad could cost the party at ballot boxes, because voters say inflation and jobs matter most.

Still, supporters praise Trump’s America First foreign strategy, arguing deals for peace and fair trade help all Americans in the long run. According to a White House spokesperson, “The president is simultaneously negotiating fairer trade deals, securing a 5% defense spending pledge among NATO allies, killing narcoterrorists smuggling illicit narcotics into our homeland, and more while ending eight wars — making the entire world safer and more stable.”

Recent polls show Americans are more worried about their wallets than what’s happening overseas. Experts say Trump and Republicans need to pay closer attention to these kitchen-table concerns to keep folks on their side.
