Wyatt’s Take

  • Trump calls Charlie Kirk’s death a “dark moment for America.”
  • No suspect has been arrested for Kirk’s killing in Utah.
  • Trump vows to pursue all behind the violence and honor Kirk’s legacy.

President Trump spoke from the Oval Office about the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. He described Kirk’s killing as a sign of troubling times in the country.

Charlie Kirk was shot at a Utah rally where he was speaking for a college tour. Police have not named a suspect, though they questioned and released a person of interest.

Trump ordered flags to fly at half staff across the nation through Sunday to honor Kirk. He told Americans he was “filled with grief and anger at the heinous assassination of Charlie Kirk on a college campus in Utah.”

“Charlie inspired millions and tonight all who knew him and loved him are united in shock and horror. This is a dark moment for America.”

Trump called Kirk a “martyr for truth and freedom.” He promised his administration would hunt down those behind this act and any other political violence. “My administration will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity and to other political violence, including the organizations that fund it and support it, as well as those who go after our judges, law enforcement officials and everyone else who brings order to our country,” he said.

Trump urged both sides of the political divide not to let anger and demonization turn to violence. He warned that murder and violence follow when people are painted as enemies.

Last year, Trump survived an attempt on his own life in Pennsylvania, where he was grazed by a bullet.

Stay alert to the deepening division and the threats politicians and their supporters face in today’s America.
