- Justice system acts swiftly against political violence.
A Florida jury has found Ryan Routh guilty for his attempt to assassinate President Trump last year. After just two hours of deliberation, jurors convicted Routh on five federal counts, including assault and gun charges.
After the verdict, Routh tried to stab himself but was stopped by U.S. Marshals. He represented himself during the two-week trial in Fort Pierce, Florida, and will be sentenced in December.
“Today’s guilty verdict against would-be Trump assassin Ryan Routh illustrates the Department of Justice’s commitment to punishing those who engage in political violence,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a post on X. “This attempted assassination was not only an attack on our President, but an affront to our very nation itself.”
This swift conviction shows the seriousness of threats against leaders and that no one is above the law. Routh’s actions were met with quick and certain justice.
