January 1, Tennessee GOP Faces Surprise Election Threat
Wyatt’s Take
- Republicans risk losing a solid district if turnout is low.
- Democrat Aftyn Behn pushes a far-left agenda and has made extreme statements about Tennessee culture.
- Matt Van Epps, a combat veteran and Christian, is the conservative pick backed by top Republicans.
Voters in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District are being told to head to the polls fast, after Republican Rep. Tim Burchett warned the seat could swing left if conservatives stay home.
Burchett called Democrat Aftyn Behn a “homegrown Marxist” and said Republicans “cannot afford to be complacent,” even though the district went hard for Trump.
Matt Van Epps, the GOP candidate, is a combat veteran and father whose campaign is backed by Trump and other national leaders.
The latest poll showed Van Epps leading by just two points, despite the district usually being a Republican stronghold.
Burchett says the problem is too many core GOP voters — especially evangelicals and gun owners — aren’t showing up on Election Day.
“This is the proverbial canary in the cave,” said Burchett.
He pointed out that if only a fraction of eligible voters show up, Democrats could slip in policies that undermine families and raise taxes.
Behn has been called out for her support of socialism, dislike of local culture, and support for higher taxes and radical policies.
“She is clearly the far-left’s dream girl,” Burchett said, warning that her voting record would make even Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez look moderate.
This race could help decide which party controls the House, with national consequences if the seat slips away.
Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and Tennessee’s senators have all urged voters to turn out for Van Epps, stressing that a Democrat win could energize the far left.
“We’ve got to wake up. She is the mainstream of the Democratic Party, and we’ve got to stop it. Surely, for goodness’ sake, we can stop it in Tennessee. Matt Van Epps is the candidate. If you’re out there, folks, please vote for him. He is a wonderful candidate.”
Don’t let out-of-touch radicals represent the heartland — remind your friends and family to vote and defend your way of life.
Wyatt Matters
Special elections like these remind us that freedom is never automatic. When good folks stay home, the left gets a chance to rewrite our values. Protecting faith, family, and hard work starts at the ballot box, right down the street.
