Wyatt’s Take

  • Eric Swalwell says he would punish ICE agents if he became California governor.
  • He wants agents who commit crimes to face charges and lose their licenses.
  • Critics see this as putting illegal immigrants ahead of law enforcement.

California Congressman Eric Swalwell said on TV that, if he became governor, he would hold ICE agents responsible for crimes and even take away their driver’s licenses.

Swalwell claims this move is meant to protect vulnerable people in the state.

He explained:

“So if the president is going to send ICE agents to chase immigrants through the fields where they work, what I’m going to do is make sure that they take off their masks and show their faces, that they show their identification. And if they commit crimes that they’re going to be charged with crimes, if it’s falsely imprisoning people, if it’s kidnapping, if it’s assault battery, they’re going to be held accountable.”

Swalwell also wants to make sure that anyone who hides their identity would not have the right to drive in California.

This approach has sparked debate about public safety and the treatment of law enforcement.

Some worry these steps would make it harder for ICE agents to do their jobs and protect communities.
