Wyatt’s Take

  • A federal judge in Boston blocked the Trump administration from quickly canceling legal status for migrants who used the CBP One app.
  • The ruling affects roughly 900,000 people and keeps their status in place while the case continues.
  • Supporters say the decision protects migrants, while critics call it judicial activism that undercuts border enforcement.

A liberal judge in Boston just handed a huge win to nearly a million migrants. Federal Judge Allison Burroughs ruled that President Trump cannot simply cancel the legal status of people who used Biden’s phone app to enter the country.

This decision protects approximately 900,000 migrants who flooded across the border while Biden was in charge. It keeps them in our communities despite the administration’s attempt to tell them it was time to leave.

The Department of Homeland Security called the ruling a clear case of judicial activism. Officials say they were simply trying to keep a promise to the American people to secure our nation and fix the mess left behind.

“The regulations do not give the agency unfettered discretion to terminate parole,” Burroughs wrote.

The Trump administration previously argued that Joe Biden overstepped his authority by handing out parole like candy instead of reviewing cases one by one as the law requires.

“Today’s ruling is a clear rejection of an administration that has tried to erase lawful status for hundreds of thousands of people with the click of a button,” said Skye Perryman of Democracy Forward.

DHS officials believe this ruling interferes with the President’s constitutional duty to decide who is allowed to stay in the United States.

“Canceling these paroles is a promise kept to the American people to secure our borders and protect our national security,” a DHS spokesperson said.

Wyatt Matters

Middle Americans believe in the rule of law and expect the government to put citizens first. This ruling makes it harder for the administration to undo radical border policies that have strained our local resources and schools.
