January 1, Rubio Backs Trump’s Hardline Stance on Zelenskyy

Hey there, folks! Let me tell you what happened with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Ukraine’s President, Zelenskyy. You see, journalist Catherine Herridge gave Rubio a chance to be nicer to Zelenskyy than President Trump was earlier this week. But Rubio decided to support Trump’s tougher stance and even added some of his own thoughts.
Here’s the deal: American and Russian diplomats just had a meeting in Saudi Arabia about ending the war in Ukraine. But guess what? Zelenskyy wasn’t invited! He canceled his plans to go there, saying that decisions about Ukraine shouldn’t be made without Ukraine being involved. Makes sense, right?
President Trump didn’t think Zelenskyy’s absence was a big deal. Trump thinks Zelenskyy wouldn’t have added much to the talks because he’s not letting Ukraine have elections since early last year. Plus, Trump thinks Zelenskyy might have played a part in starting the war.
Zelenskyy didn’t like what Trump said, and he fired back, saying Trump was spreading “disinformation” and urged Trump’s team to be more honest.
The argument didn’t stop there. Trump jumped onto Truth Social, calling Zelenskyy a “dictator without elections” and claimed he just wants more money.
In an interview, Herridge asked Rubio about Trump calling Zelenskyy a dictator. Rubio thinks Trump is right to be upset. Apparently, it’s not just Trump who’s frustrated. Former President Biden was also mad when Zelenskyy complained about not getting enough support from the U.S., even after getting military aid.
Rubio shared that he and some U.S. leaders talked to Zelenskyy about partnering on Ukraine’s mineral rights as a security measure. They agreed in the meeting, but later Zelenskyy was saying the opposite. Rubio was upset, saying it’s not fair when America is trying to help.
In the end, Rubio praised Trump’s approach, saying Trump doesn’t want to be tricked. He wants to work for peace and hopes Zelenskyy will be a true partner.
Even J.D. Vance, who Zelenskyy once called “radical,” agreed with Rubio’s take on X (formerly Twitter).

It’s important to think about how people treat each other, especially in tough situations like the one between the U.S. and Ukraine. Recently, President Zelenskyy wasn’t invited to a meeting about the war in Ukraine, and some people, like Secretary of State Marco Rubio, seem to think this wasn’t a big deal. But others believe it’s important for Ukraine to be part of discussions about its future. It makes sense that Zelenskyy feels left out since decisions about his country should include him.
President Trump has been very critical of Zelenskyy, suggesting that he might have started the war and pointing out the absence of elections in Ukraine. But these comments didn’t sit well with everyone. Zelenskyy didn’t take these words lightly and said they weren’t true. Trump even said some hurtful things, calling Zelenskyy a “dictator.” It’s not nice to call names, and it doesn’t help bring peace or understanding. Talking to each other with respect is important, even when there are disagreements.
Lastly, it’s good to know that there are people like Rubio who are trying to work with Ukraine for solutions, like discussing mineral rights for security. But it’s also important to stay honest and fair when trying to find peace. Hopefully, by working together and being kind, everyone can find a way to help Ukraine and make sure they’re part of the conversation about their own country.
