Wyatt’s Take

  • Most Americans say family matters more than career.
  • Voters want tough limits on abortion and protection for mothers and babies.
  • Parents call for affordable care and more adoption options instead of abortion.

Most Americans believe building a family and protecting life are essential. The Love Life Initiative, led by the Hawleys, aims to revive these heartland values and push for policies in line with them.

Sen. Josh Hawley and Erin Hawley’s nonprofit surveyed 1,000 likely voters, finding that 60% think raising a family is key to living a meaningful life. Another 88% said forming a family is personally important, showing these beliefs cut across political lines.

Many voters worry the country is drifting from its Christian roots toward radical abortion policy. Over half support going back to Judeo-Christian values, and 80% want abortion restricted past a certain point in pregnancy, except to save the mother’s life.

Most respondents say America puts too much focus on work and not enough on home life. Fifty-five percent list family above a career, and 61% say the culture overvalues financial success.

Sen. Hawley stressed

“We believe there needs to be a strong voice advocating for life and making it easier to start a family. That is fundamental to who we are as Americans and the future of our country. And it is how we will be judged as a society. This is a generational project.”

America’s abortion surge, blamed on Biden-era mail-order abortion pill expansions, makes starting families harder. Congress and groups like the Hawleys’ are now pressuring regulators to roll back those changes and keep women and babies safe.

Though the FDA claims it’s reviewing abortion drugs, it recently approved a generic version for sale. When pollsters shared facts about health risks from abortion pills, 64% of voters pushed back against the FDA’s lax attitude and 54% said safety should be the top priority.

Erin Hawley explained

“Most women have an abortion because of a lack of support. We want to change that. We want to build a culture that is pro-life and pro-family, and we can do that by providing broader support for women in need.”

Voters overwhelmingly want better solutions for mothers in tough spots, with 84% saying society should help pregnant women with more choices than abortion. Adoption as an alternative got support from 74%.

Another 65% said pregnancy and birth care is too expensive and should be free for citizens. Seventy-seven percent think the country should be working for fewer abortions, and more than half do not want tax money funding any abortions.

Heartland Americans are speaking up in these surveys. Now the question is whether leaders in Washington will listen.
