  • Concerns raised over Mamdani’s refusal to condemn anti-Israel slogans.
  • Debate grows as election day nears in New York City.

A leading New York City rabbi says Democrat Zohran Mamdani’s run for mayor could put Jewish lives in harm’s way.

He claims the candidate’s views and past statements are dangerous for the city’s Jewish population.

“This is a moment where Jewish self-concern — safety — is on the docket,” Rabbi Elliot Cosgrove said Wednesday.

Cosgrove explained he wished the city’s election was only about normal issues, but said public safety for Jews must come first.

He told his synagogue that Mamdani

“poses a danger”

because the Democrat socialists’ rhetoric hasn’t condemned threats like

‘globalize the Intifada’

and has accused Israel of genocide.

After backlash, Mamdani did eventually say he would

“discourage”

use of those violent slogans.

He has also been vocal against Israel, and said New York City should follow the International Criminal Court warrant if the Israeli prime minister visited.

Mamdani denies antisemitism, but the rabbi says this election is a time for everyone to speak up.

“Not everyone has a pulpit, but everyone has friends, colleagues, family members who we have to have those one-on-one conversations with and throw a flag on the field and say,

‘We can disagree on an issue here and there, but when it comes to the safety of the Jewish community, there is no gray area.’

Mamdani’s campaign says he has support from some Jewish officials. His team also noted plans to boost anti-hate crime funding as part of his platform.

If Mamdani wins, he would become the city’s first Muslim mayor.
