Wyatt’s Take

  • Kimmel turned a championship celebration into a political jab at Donald Trump.
  • The segment featured a fake trophy and a mocking setup aimed at the former president.
  • Viewers said the bit distracted from UCLA’s historic title win.

Hollywood elites once again found a way to inject politics into a moment that should have belonged to the players. Jimmy Kimmel turned UCLA’s women’s basketball championship celebration into a cheap shot at Donald Trump.

During his show, Kimmel asked the players if they had heard from Donald Trump yet.

When they said no, he brought out a fake silver trophy and told them to give it to Trump if they visited the White House.

“What I want you to do is bring this fake trophy we’ve made to the White House. He’s not going to know,” Kimmel told the team.

Kimmel said the president would probably try to steal the real trophy for himself.

The coach and players laughed along, but many viewers saw the stunt as disrespectful and unnecessary.

Social media users quickly blasted the segment for ruining a proud sports moment with partisan sniping. Others said Kimmel sounded more obsessed with the former president than with honoring the team.

The UCLA Bruins earned their first national championship in program history by defeating the South Carolina Gamecocks 79-51. That achievement should have stayed front and center.
