January 1, NYC Mayor Challenges Trump Over Maduro Arrest
Wyatt’s Take
- Mayor Mamdani says he called President Trump after Maduro’s capture.
- Mamdani opposes Trump’s actions in Venezuela, calling them illegal.
- Local leaders clash as federal power overrides city concerns.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani publicly confronted President Trump about the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.
Mamdani stated that he directly told Trump he did not support the action taken against Venezuela.
At a press conference, Mamdani said
“I spoke with the president directly to register my opposition to this act.”
He explained that he voiced his concerns about regime change and the violation of both federal and international law.
“I registered my opposition, I made it clear, and we left it at that,”
Mamdani added, signaling a tense start to his relationship with the president.
This dispute marks the first major disagreement between the new NYC mayor and President Trump.
Mamdani claims he was elected to be upfront about his differences.
“The president and I have always been honest and direct with each other about places of disagreement.”
Despite his statements, Mamdani has little say in Maduro’s fate.
Maduro is being held in Brooklyn at a federal facility, a process controlled by the federal government.
“It is my responsibility that whatever actions the federal government takes, that they have a minimal impact on the day-to-day lives of New Yorkers,”
Mamdani explained.
He also shared his thoughts in a written statement, warning that the U.S. military’s move to detain Maduro is an act of war and affects New Yorkers, particularly its Venezuelan community.
“Unilaterally attacking a sovereign nation is an act of war and a violation of federal and international law,”
Mamdani wrote during his Saturday message.
He added,
“This blatant pursuit of regime change doesn’t just affect those abroad, it directly impacts New Yorkers, including tens of thousands of Venezuelans who call this city home. My focus is their safety and the safety of every New Yorker, and my administration will continue to monitor the situation and issue relevant guidance.”
Local authority has its limits when the federal government makes big moves.
The country will be watching to see how this conflict between city and White House plays out.
Wyatt Matters
Even in America’s biggest city, there are times when local leaders simply can’t stop what the federal government puts in motion. Folks across Middle America know what it feels like when decisions from Washington override their voices.
Standing up for your people matters, even when the odds are long.

You are a typical far left liberal who suffers from TDS.You don’t seem to care that these countries are sending criminals and drugs to our country.Your type actually promotes anti American propaganda. Our federal government has only 2 responsibilities. One is to protect our borders! Two is to protect the citizens of our country from threats of invasion and illegal contraband. So find out what fascist really means before you and the rest of you liberals throw that word around.

Trump is a fascist? Why? Is it because he hates to see shitbag leaders of failed countries help drug cartels kill Americans or because he doesn’t want to see our country overrun with illegals?
