Wyatt’s Take

  • Eric Adams pulls out of mayoral race after corruption investigation fallout.
  • Adams says media and campaign finance hurdles forced his decision.
  • No endorsement offered for any rival candidates.

New York Mayor Eric Adams dropped out of the race for another term, calling an end to his campaign in a statement posted Sunday. In his video message, Adams thanked family, pointed to his administration’s diversity, and addressed a federal investigation that ended earlier this year.

In his address, Adams stated:

“It’s not always easy to see the impact of good policy in just three years.

… I know some remain unsure of me after the unfortunate events surrounding my federal case.

I was wrongfully charged because I fought for this city, and if I had to do it again, I would fight for New York again.

And yet, despite all we’ve achieved, I cannot continue my re-election campaign.

The constant media speculation about my future and the campaign finance board’s decision to withhold millions of dollars have undermined my ability to raise the funds needed for a serious campaign.

I hope that over time, New Yorkers will see this city thrived under our leadership, the policies we put in place should be continued and expanded.

I hope you will see that despite the headlines and innuendo, I always put you before me.”

He made no endorsement for any other candidate.

The New York City mayoral contest now features socialist Democrat Zohran Mamdani, former Governor Andrew Cuomo running as an independent, and Republican Curtis Sliwa. Mamdani is leading polls, with Cuomo and Sliwa trailing.

The election is set for November 4, with Adams now officially out.
