January 1, Mayor Adams Faces Backlash on Sanctuary City Stance
Mayor Eric Adams of New York thinks he can work with the upcoming Trump administration on immigration, but he still wants New York City to welcome illegal migrants. This is causing quite the stir—a lot of folks voted for Trump hoping for tougher actions on immigration, like deportations and cutting back on money for migrants.
Mayor Adams says New York will still be a “sanctuary city” for migrants, even though it’s been criticized for spending billions of tax dollars on them. He says, “New York City will always be a beacon of liberty,” after Donald Trump was elected President. Adams wants to talk with Trump’s team about a new plan for immigration, but he hasn’t explained what that plan would look like.
Mayor Adams’ immigrant affairs boss, Manuel Castro, also said they won’t change their mind about supporting illegal migrants. He wants migrants to stay in the city and keep using free city benefits, even if they’re illegal. Castro told them not to worry about deporting themselves back home or feeling scared.
The mayor also wants New York police to follow sanctuary city rules and not work with federal immigration officials. While claiming to want to work with Trump, he’s also expecting the federal government to foot the bill for the billions of dollars spent on supporting migrants, instead of New York taxpayers.
Since last year, New York has spent nearly $5.5 billion as more migrants come in, up to 212,000 since President Biden’s border issues began. This has upset a lot of New Yorkers. Many have protested over the mayor’s policies that draw even more migrants to the city.
A lot of right-leaning folks see this as a big problem. They think taxpayer money should be spent elsewhere and not on supporting illegal migrants, especially with the new Trump administration’s plans for stricter immigration controls.

If he wants to be a sanctuary city then he better find a way to foot the bill because his funding will be cut off. In case he doesn’t know, that’s what the people of his city voted for and I for one am tired of people like Adams wasting our tax dollars.

Immigration should not allowed to become an invasion. Most of us want to be kind to needy people but I think an enemy can and has swamped our country. Many of these needy people are getting firearms snd committing crimes. Tax money USA citizens will have to shell out in increased real estate taxes needed to house / feed the immigrants will not go to the Law-enforcement, to protect us. Rather than have a politician stand up and claim “we are a Sanctuary city “ why not ask the tax paying citizens that question. The recent election results should provide a clue to their answer.

Everyone understands the need for fair play however this nation was founded on legal immigrants not Illegal invaders. Want to come to this country do it legally and you will be welcome however doing it Illegally should result in your entry being denied as it automatically makes you a criminal. And in coming here leave your old countries ideas behind and accept those of this nation.

If he wants to stay a sanctuary city, then he needs his city to foot the bill. It should not be my responsibility here in Louisiana to pay for them. Let the taxpayers in Nee York pay for them or get pissed off about and bring this idiot mayor to task.

Totally insane, you let these ppl come in illegally unvetted some with diseases and conviction for murder and rape. You just let them jump the line…. What about ppl doing it the legal way that are waiting 2,3,4 years or more to get here???? At least those ppl we know who they are and have been vetted , background checks police reports health certificates. My wife is an immigrant and it took 2.5 years to get threw the paper work and get her here. Its not fair to ppl that do it legally. You let them in illegally so what other illegal things are they gonna do when there are not restrictions to come into the USA. You are a bunch of total idiots… Just trying to increase the Democratic base to have a 1 party rule, were not stupid… 1.3 million already have deportation orders but there still here… And 8000 convicted murders and rapist that we know about, how smart is that, I’m not against immigration, it just needs to be done the right way, and dont blame republicans you are alllll responsible, you work for the American ppl, not for your pet projects, not to fill your pockets with insider trading and taking hand outs from corporations. America has spoken but have the left-wing activists and bleeding hearts in NYC spoken? Many benighted fools look at this issue theoretically, not logically. When you are supporting hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants, the taxpayers will pay the expenses even if the exorbitant costs are dumped on the federal government. If NYC wants to be a sanctuary city, NYC should pay the price. Sure, we all want to be nice guys and help the downtrodden but why the hell can’t some of these people go to another country and bleed it dry? America can’t save the world and after seeing many examples of ingratitude and even complaints that the handouts aren’t good enough, I don’t welcome these free loaders, I resent them. Then there are the gangs and criminals preying on American citizens, don’t we have enough of our own without inviting more to invade our country? NYC is diverse now so that argument falls flat on its face. Undocumented migrants are future democrats if they are permitted to stay and given amnesty. We have borders for a reason and if we ignore them, we are not a sovereign nation. Mexico enforces its borders, all other nations on the planet enforce their borders, why can’t we?

You are absolutely right! The Federal Government shouldn’t be responsible for New Yorks poor decisions. I guess if they want to stay a Sancturary City then maybe all the illegals should go there and leave places that are not Sancturary Cities. Those that pay taxes in NYC should move out and let the Dems only pay.

The people of New York should foot the bill for their mayors actions as they could easily change it by electing someone else that represents their views. No federal funds should go to any city or state that is breaking the law. Time to take care of our own then extend a helping hand to others not being selfish just realistic.

I’m from NY and I voted for President Trump because I want to stop the influx of illegal migrants that destroying our country and I’m terrified the OPEN BORDERS CRIMINALS drugs dealers terrorist coming in our country. Mayor Adams and Hochul should go with their illegal migrants and make their house their sanctuary. They are BREAKING THE LAW

Yes – It is a shame that NY’s mayor seems to care more about ILLEGALS than he does for the American people who are sick and fed up with ILLEGALS getting all of their FREEBIES OFF THE AMERICAN TAXPAYER !!! There is a right way and a wrong way to enter America and ILLEGALS should go through the correct process to become LEGAL CITIZENS !!!
