President Trump announced that Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife have been captured and taken out of the country after a series of explosions hit Caracas.
He praised the U.S. team effort behind the operation and said more details would come at a Mar-a-Lago press conference.
Reports came in of airstrikes hitting the capital, causing blackouts and panic, with Caracas’s main military locations targeted.
Maduro, already wanted by the U.S. for alleged drug crimes, faced a $50 million bounty from American authorities.
Venezuelan defense officials denounced the strike, calling it an American invasion and urging the world to criticize the U.S.
They promised to resist and rallied locals to avoid chaos after the strike.
