January 1, Kansas Senate Race Suddenly Toss-Up As Dems Eye Seat They Lost Under FDR

Wyatt’s Take

  • Establishment forecasters are suddenly treating a deep-red Kansas Senate race like a coin flip.
  • Republican Sen. Roger Marshall is barely ahead of a little-known Democrat, and the shift hands Democrats their first realistic shot at the seat since the 1930s.
  • Heartland voters see this as another attempt by outside money and media to manufacture momentum where none exists.

One of the nation’s leading election forecasters just moved the Kansas Senate race from leaning Republican to a toss-up, even though the seat has stayed in GOP hands for generations.

The change came days after Sen. Roger Marshall held only a razor-thin lead over Democrat Adam Hamilton heading into the final stretch.

Cook Political Report made the call Tuesday, pointing to recent polling that showed the race tightening fast.

“It’s unusual to see Kansas move this quickly without major outside spending or a national wave,” one GOP strategist told local reporters.

Democrats have not held this Senate seat since Franklin Roosevelt’s time in office, making the sudden toss-up rating a sharp departure from historical patterns.

Marshall, a conservative physician-turned-senator, has focused his campaign on border security, farm policy, and rolling back federal regulations that hurt Kansas producers.

Hamilton, a lesser-known challenger, has received backing from national progressive groups hoping to turn the state blue in a year when Democrats are already defending far more seats nationwide.

Local voters remain skeptical the shift reflects real movement on the ground.

“Folks around here know who stands with them on the issues that matter most,” said one Marshall supporter at a recent town hall in Salina.

Wyatt Matters

Middle America still values leaders who put farmers, families, and border security ahead of coastal donor demands, and Kansans aren’t likely to hand that seat back to the party that hasn’t earned it since the Great Depression.

I’ve learned not to put too much stock in polling because polls can be made to say whatever they want them to. How does rolling back government regulations can hurt Kansans. I’ve noticed that government regulations always choke out the people who don’t want the regulations in the first place. Sounds to me like the GOP senator fights for border security and that pretty much saves jobs and sends illegal beaners back home. Sorry, but I’m too old to change my ways now and PC is not for me. Jackasses!
