January 1, Hotel’s Controversial Choice Sparks Community Outrage

Folks, what happened in Boston is downright shocking. A hotel there made a choice that shows where their priorities lie, and it’s not with the local Jewish community. The Iris Hotel, in a neighborhood known for having a large Jewish population, canceled two Passover meals that were all set for Saturday night. Guess who they decided to host instead? None other than Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, known for her anti-Israel stance.
Here’s the deal: Just two days before these important religious meals were supposed to happen, the hotel pulled the plug. Why? Well, it seems they preferred to host an event for Tlaib, where they screened a movie about Palestinians. A hotel staffer confirmed that Tlaib was indeed there that evening. It’s no surprise, though. One of the hotel’s owners, Anwar Faisal, is a big donor to Tlaib and has been accused of providing less-than-ideal housing to college students. We’re talking about buildings with rats, folks.
Now, the hotel didn’t just stop there. They flew a Palestinian flag under the American flag outside, although it was accidentally upside down. Guests like Sosi Rochel, who were eagerly looking forward to the Passover meal, were left disappointed and hurt by this decision. It felt like a slap in the face to the community.
Even when folks asked the hotel about this, they got a generic response, as if their concerns didn’t matter. It’s clear they prioritized hosting a controversial figure over respecting their local neighborhood.
The management tried to cover up by saying the flag was meant to honor Tlaib’s heritage. They claim they show respect to any dignitary’s background. But let’s be real, respecting a heritage is one thing, ignoring the values of your whole community is another.
Anwar Faisal, one of the owners, was already known for his bad management of rental properties. Plus, he’s given lots of money to support Tlaib’s campaigns. Not long ago, Tlaib was censured by the House of Representatives for spreading misleading information about a Hamas attack on Israel. She frequently voices anti-Israel views.
Jewish Americans are rightly upset about this whole mess. Sam Markstein from the Republican Jewish Coalition says the hotel should be ashamed and owes the Jewish community a big apology. And Liora Rez from StopAntisemitism called the cancellation an offensive act, pushing the boundaries of disrespect even further.
This event clearly shows the deep divide we’re facing right now. The people deserve answers and respect, and they surely didn’t get either from the Iris Hotel.
Wyatt Matters!
What happened at the Iris Hotel is really unfair and disrespectful to the Jewish community. The hotel chose to cancel two important Passover meals just to host Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, a decision that shows a lack of respect for the local community. Passover is a special time for Jewish families, a moment to gather together and share traditions. For the hotel to cancel these meals just two days before the event is a big disappointment and hurtful to those who were looking forward to it.
Instead of celebrating a local tradition, the hotel decided to host an event for someone known for her anti-Israel stance. This change in plans felt like a slap in the face to many people who wanted to celebrate their faith and heritage. The hotel’s actions seemed to show that they cared more about pleasing a single guest than respecting the values of their neighborhood. The attempt to honor Tlaib’s heritage by flying a flag, even if upside down, doesn’t make up for ignoring the community’s needs.
Local Jewish Americans are understandably upset. They feel let down by the Iris Hotel, which should have acted more thoughtfully. This situation shows a lack of understanding and respect, and it only makes the divide in our communities feel bigger. The hotel should apologize to the Jewish community for this act, and they need to take steps to ensure everyone feels respected and valued. Everyone deserves to have their traditions honored, especially in a place that is supposed to be welcoming and inclusive.

An apology from the hotel would be meaningless. Their priorities have been made perfectly clear. A boycott would have a bigger impact.

A boycott is a must! An insincere apology is meaningless. Boycotts work!
