A Democratic senator just said the quiet part out loud. The party is in complete disarray, and the old guard needs to go.

Sen. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan told SiriusXM’s “Straight Shooter” this week that her party desperately needs “new leadership” because the current strategy is a total failure. “Every day there’s a debate within the party about the path forward,” she admitted.

“That’s why I believe we need significant new leadership. The old models are no longer working, and that includes the Democratic Party.”

Slotkin didn’t hold back about why Democrats lost so badly in 2024. She said her party tried to be everything to everyone and ended up standing for nothing.

“Democrats were soundly defeated in 2024. I was in a swing state, and I won that same year. To me, the lesson was simple. Democrats had too many priorities. They tried to make everyone happy and answer every question. When you prioritize everything, no one knows what you actually stand for.”

Then she gave credit where it’s due — to President Trump.

“Donald Trump came in with one clear message. He said, ‘I’m going to make your life more affordable. I’m going to put more money in your pocket.’ He won because he kept his message simple and focused on the issue Americans cared most about.”

That’s exactly right. While Democrats were obsessing over pronouns, climate hysteria, and woke nonsense, Trump talked about kitchen table issues that actually matter to working families. He promised to bring down prices, secure the border, and put America first.

And voters responded. They handed Democrats a crushing defeat because they were tired of being lectured by coastal elites who don’t understand their lives.

Earlier this week, Slotkin said Democrats need to refocus on basics like the economy and education. She said the party needs to show people “that what we care about is an economy where if you work hard and play by the rules, you get ahead and your kids do better.”

Good luck with that. While Slotkin talks about getting back to basics, her party is being taken over by Democratic socialists and radical progressives. This week alone, far-left candidates backed by New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani scored multiple primary victories.

The Democratic National Committee installed Ken Martin as chairman in February, supposedly to ease tensions and unite the party. But Slotkin says that’s not nearly enough — they need a complete leadership overhaul.

And she’s not alone. A group of Democratic senators reportedly tried to oust Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer over his mishandling of last year’s government shutdown, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Senate Democrats will pick their leader after this November’s election through a secret ballot. Translation: expect plenty of backroom deals and finger-pointing as the party tears itself apart.

The truth is, Democrats are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Their establishment wing is clinging to power while losing touch with regular Americans. Their progressive wing is pushing socialism and identity politics that voters reject.

Meanwhile, Trump keeps winning because he never forgot who he works for: the American people.

Wyatt Matters

When your own senators start admitting your party is broken and leaderless, you know you’re in trouble. The Democrats lost because they abandoned working families in favor of radical ideology and corporate donors. Trump won because he spoke directly to the forgotten men and women of this country. That’s a lesson the left still hasn’t learned — and probably never will. While they fight over who gets to captain their sinking ship, the rest of us are moving forward with common sense leadership that puts America first.
