  • Delta warns travelers to reschedule weekend flights
  • Major winter storm causing airline cancellations and delays
  • Air travel disruptions expected across South, East, and Midwest

Delta Air Lines is telling folks flying this weekend to rethink their plans as a big winter storm is causing serious travel issues. Airlines are calling off flights, warning of long waits, and handing out waivers as ice, snow, and high winds hammer airports in the South, East, and Midwest.

Delta says anyone flying through the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys—including Nashville and Raleigh–Durham—should expect their flights to be canceled. The storm is bad enough that flights at airports in five states were already scrapped Thursday, and more trouble is likely if the weather keeps up.

At Dallas–Fort Worth International, about two-thirds of Saturday’s departures have already been canceled. American Airlines responded by adding over 3,200 extra seats to help folks get in and out of Dallas–Fort Worth between Friday and Sunday.

The National Weather Service says freezing rain, sleet, and snow could make roads dangerous and knock out power, with worst snow piling up farther north as the storm moves on. Airlines advise travelers to stay on top of flight updates and use mobile apps or websites to get rebooked fast.

Many have already changed plans, bracing for more headaches as the storm rolls through.
