January 1, Danish Intel Flags Russian, Chinese Moves Near Greenland
Wyatt’s Take
- Denmark’s own defense intelligence says Russia and China have real plans for the Arctic.
- Danish leaders and China’s officials deny any threat, calling U.S. warnings unfounded.
- The debate highlights a gap between political talk and military reality in the region.
Danish politicians brushed off concerns about Russia and China menacing Greenland, but their country’s top spy agency warned the opposite last year. The Danish Defense Intelligence Service reported growing Russian and Chinese military interest in Greenland and around the Arctic region.
President Trump said Greenland is needed for U.S. security, claiming the island was crowded with Russian and Chinese vessels. Danish officials called his claims “delusional” and insisted there aren’t warships from either country near Greenland.
Chinese officials and their state-run media backed up Denmark, arguing the U.S. only wants Greenland for its own gain.
Yet, the Danish “Intelligence Outlook 2025” clearly stated, “China is preparing for a military presence in the Arctic.” The agency said China’s goals include Greenland, and it warned about Chinese planes, ships, and submarines showing up.
The report flagged China and Russia working together more closely in the north, with Moscow using all means to track waters between Greenland, Iceland, and the UK as part of its prep for a possible face-off with NATO.
America’s own intelligence agencies backed up these assessments, listing Russian and Chinese moves in the Arctic as a growing threat, especially around Greenland. The Pentagon has warned about their military teamwork in the area too.
Danish politicians kept denying any issue, with one official stating, “I can assure you that your fantasies about a big threat from China and Russia against Greenland are delusional. You are the threat. Not them.”
Several Nordic diplomats echoed this, saying there’s no proof Russia or China have active ships or submarines around Greenland, only further to the east.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen tried to downplay “massive” Chinese investments or military ships near Greenland, arguing the picture being shared isn’t true. The Chinese government followed suit, telling the U.S. to “stop using the so-called ‘China threat’ as a pretext for itself to seek selfish gains.”
Despite all these denials, Denmark’s own intelligence paints a different story, warning that Russia and China both see Greenland and the surrounding seas as key for their future goals.
Wyatt Matters
When political leaders won’t face up to rising threats on America’s doorstep, regular folks should take notice. Protecting strategic places like Greenland means safeguarding the values and safety of hard-working families back home.
