New York released recent test scores showing that 57% of 3rd to 8th graders scored as proficient in math and just 53% in English. Eva Moskowitz, who leads the Success Academy charter network, said the real problem is the system, not the kids.

“The children are fine. It is the system that is failing to deliver with incredible consequences,”

she told Fox News Digital. Moskowitz argued that politicians, unions, and government red tape keep failing schools open, year after year, both in cities and rural areas.

Most families are stuck sending their kids to schools based on where they live, leaving low-income parents with few choices. Charter schools change that by letting parents enroll their kids outside the usual neighborhood lines.

Moskowitz pointed out that many parents move to better neighborhoods just for school options, but families without money don’t have that choice. She said:

“That’s why the charter movement is so important, because it finally gives what affluent parents already have: it gives parents a choice, which is so powerful.”

Her school network, Success Academy, ranked best in the state for math in grades 3–8, with a 96% pass rate. In English, they came second at 92%.

The network serves about 22,000 kids, mostly from low-income Black and Hispanic families. They call themselves a “school district” since they’re the fourth-largest in New York, serving over 20,000 students and offering district-level services.

If you care about your kids’ future, pay attention to what these scores mean for families like yours—and the power of having real school choice.

Every child deserves a real shot, no matter their ZIP code or income. True opportunity comes when parents have the freedom to choose what’s best for their families—not when they’re stuck in a system that leaves too many behind.
