January 1, CBS Faces Fire Over Pulled Prison Story

Wyatt’s Take

  • CBS held back a ’60 Minutes’ segment about El Salvador’s CECOT prison after major promotion.
  • Liberal hosts and politicians are accusing CBS and Bari Weiss of bowing to political pressure.
  • Staff and viewers worry this is censorship and threatens the tradition of a free press.

CBS got folks riled up when it yanked a ’60 Minutes’ special on El Salvador’s tough CECOT prison.

The piece had been hyped up, but never aired, leaving many wondering if politics played a role.

Liberal talk show hosts and commentators wasted no time slamming CBS and Bari Weiss, claiming it looked like government influence.

“Government-controlled TV,” some said.

Others called for public answers.

Sharyn Alfonsi, who worked on the segment, claimed everything had cleared standards.

“It is factually correct. In my view, pulling it now, after every rigorous internal check has been met, is not an editorial decision, it is a political one.”

She warned viewers would see this as corporate censorship.

Sen. Brian Schatz wrote

“This CBS thing does merit an explanation right away. It’s a pretty big deal to pull a story at the request of the White House.”

“And if that’s not what happened everyone should know that too.”

CBS insists the story will air later after more reporting.

With trust in media already low, critics fear this fuels more worry that press freedom is at risk when big companies and politics get mixed in.

Stay vigilant, ask questions, and never take promises at face value.

Wyatt Matters

Stories like this remind folks in the heartland why trust in media is so shaky. When newsrooms hold back important stories, it makes working Americans feel their voices matter less than political games, and the heart of this country values honesty and holding power to account—never let that go.

Shame that the media can not be trusted to be honest.

Why the in-depth inquiry into a prison system in a separate sovereign country? Looks like more globalism in action. We have enough problems to fix within our own borders before we can fix the whole world. Anything to gain ratings, I guess.

It’s only the leftist democrats that are upset because their democrat party propaganda attacking the Trump Administration will not show. It was surprising to CBS pull a segment until they could validate the story. Imagine an actual member of the corporate media in this country wanting accuracy in their reporting. How dangerous is that?
