Wyatt’s Take

  • CBS held back a story about migrants facing harsh prison time in El Salvador after Trump’s deportations.
  • The network says it needs more reporting before airing the segment.
  • The move follows months of legal fights and calls for government transparency.

CBS was set to air a segment featuring interviews with migrants deported to one of El Salvador’s toughest prisons. The network delayed the broadcast just hours before it was scheduled, saying, “Our report ‘Inside CECOT’ will air in a future broadcast.”

The story followed Venezuelan migrants deported by the Trump administration and locked up in CECOT, described by inmates as having “brutal and torturous conditions.” Some had no family or history in El Salvador but were sent anyway after being called terrorists.

One former inmate described his experience as “four months of hell.” When asked if he thought he’d die, he replied, “We thought we were already the living dead honestly.” CBS replaced the segment with a piece about classical musicians and made the preview private on YouTube. The network stated they needed more time for reporting.

A judge had earlier blocked some deportations but many migrants still ended up at CECOT, some waiting months for answers. The Department of Justice was later told to update the court on their status and whereabouts.

Stay tuned for updates as this story develops and pushes for answers about what happens to American immigration decisions after deportation.
