January 1, California Tax Dollars Fund Gender Procedures for Undocumented Immigrants

Wyatt’s Take
- California is facing a major budget shortfall while still funding transition-related procedures.
- An investigation says some non-citizens in city-funded shelters received Medi-Cal-covered care.
- Critics argue the policy raises serious questions about taxpayer priorities and immigration enforcement.
California is facing a massive budget deficit, yet the state is using tax dollars to fund transgender procedures for illegal immigrants.
A new investigation found that government-funded shelters in San Francisco are housing non-citizens who traveled to America specifically for taxpayer-funded transition services.
Researchers visited several facilities where residents said they did not have to provide documentation to receive care.
One man from Mexico living in a city-funded shelter confirmed that Medi-Cal paid for his breast implants and hormone treatments.
“Even though you’re undocumented, you can get them,”
the resident stated.
Reports indicate that California may be seen as a destination for people seeking free housing and surgeries.
These procedures include hormone therapy and expensive genital surgeries that can involve permanent physical changes.
“If you make it all the way to California, the government will pay for your shelter, hormones, and surgeries—no questions asked,”
the investigation noted.
Current state law requires Medi-Cal to cover these procedures without discrimination.
Critics say that creates a strong incentive for non-citizens to enter the country illegally and head to California’s sanctuary cities.
Recent studies from the United Kingdom and the U.S. government have found weak evidence for the long-term benefits of these treatments.
They also carry serious risks, including infertility and other lifelong complications.
Despite those concerns, California continues to prioritize these treatments while struggling with a multi-billion-dollar budget gap.
Many taxpayers see that as a direct hit to schools, roads, and emergency services.
The state continues to push these policies even as its budget problems deepen.
For many middle-class families, it is another example of government putting ideological spending ahead of basic needs.
