January 1, California Elderly Parole Policy Faces Renewed Fire After Child Molestation Arrest

Wyatt’s Take
- Sacramento deputies arrested 75-year-old Larry Candies for allegedly molesting a relative for years.
- Authorities say the abuse dates back to the 1980s and includes victims from the same family.
- Critics say California’s early-parole rules could put dangerous predators back on the street.
A mother reported the abuse in September 2025 after her daughter was victimized by the relative.
Detectives found older complaints and interviewed victims who say the abuse started when one was 8 years old in the 1980s.
SCSO Sgt. Edward Igoe said predators often target family friends once they run out of relatives to hurt.
He also expressed frustration that the state offers parole opportunities regardless of the sentence length.
