January 1, Businesses Brace for Unrest Ahead of Election Day
Hey there, folks! So, there’s a lot going on in Portland, Oregon, and Washington, D.C. right now. Business owners in these areas are taking some big steps to protect their stores, offices, and banks as we get closer to Election Day. They’re putting up plywood over their windows and doors, just in case things get a little wild.
You might remember how things went down back in 2016 when Donald Trump won the presidency. A bunch of leftist protesters hit the streets in Portland, causing quite a mess. Then, in 2020 after George Floyd’s death, the chaos got even worse. It seems like some people think breaking stuff is okay when they’re upset – but we know there’s a better way to handle things.
Jordan Schnitzer, a real estate guy in Portland, has spent $20,000 to board up his buildings in the city. He’s puzzled about why this kind of behavior keeps happening in America. “Do you go around smashing windows if your favorite team loses?” he asked. He’s worried about the message this sends to kids.
Over in D.C., it’s pretty much the same story. Businesses near the White House are also boarding up. Councilmember Brooke Pinto said folks are asking whether they should start hiding their trash cans and putting up boards.
Even places like McDonald’s are almost completely covered in boards but are staying open. Joeri Vanbroekovon, visiting D.C. for the election, thinks it’s sad this is necessary. He wishes it didn’t have to be this way, but given what’s happened before, he understands why folks are being careful.
It’s a real shame businesses have to go through this. Let’s hope for a peaceful Election Day, where everyone gets a chance to have their say without all this destruction.
Wyatt Matters!
With Election Day approaching in Portland and Washington, D.C., businesses are busy boarding up their windows and doors. They’re doing this to protect themselves from any possible trouble, just like they’ve had in the past. It’s not the first time something like this has happened. In 2016 and 2020, people got angry and caused damage after the elections. But this way of expressing frustration isn’t a good example for anyone, especially kids. We should be able to disagree without causing harm.
Business owners like Jordan Schnitzer have spent a lot of money to make their buildings safe. He doesn’t understand why this type of behavior keeps popping up. It’s like when your favorite sports team loses—breaking things won’t fix anything or make you feel better. It only shows others that it’s okay to destroy when you’re upset, and that’s not right.
Even in places like D.C., people are worried about what might happen. Some are trying to hide trash cans and cover up their stores, just in case. It’s sad to see businesses having to do this, and it’s a scary sign for the community. We should hope for a peaceful Election Day where everyone can speak up safely, without fear of destruction. Protecting our homes and businesses should not be necessary just because we don’t agree with one another.

This article has it reversed about the sports team’s fans rioting and looting, it’s usually the team winning whose cities get destroyed. These looters are waiting for an excuse to steal. They are pitiful excuses for humans.

January 6th resonates with many businesses and they are afraid of the violence that the Trump supporters quickly choose.
