January 1, Bomb Squad Acts as TPUSA Event Nears

A suspicious object was discovered outside the Old Main building at Utah State University hours before a Turning Point USA event. Officials stated the device was non-explosive, but a bomb squad detonated it as a precaution.

“A suspicious device was found near the exterior of Old Main,” the university reported. “University and local law enforcement were dispatched to the scene. A device was located and deemed to be a non-explosive device. Out of an abundance of caution, the bomb squad detonated the suspicious device. Old Main building is now clear and safe. All scheduled events may resume as normal.”

Campus security increased ahead of the TPUSA event, the first since founder Charlie Kirk was killed at another Utah college. The event will have strict entry rules, including limits on bag size and a ban on outside signs.

Extra precautions show the high alert for conservative gatherings and the determination not to be intimidated.
