January 1, Unlock Hidden Savings: Pro Tips to Maximize Your Costco Membership
Having a Costco membership is like unlocking a treasure trove of savings—one that every savvy American should consider. Whether you need to stock up on household essentials, groceries, or big-ticket items like furniture and electronics, Costco, the warehouse behemoth, presents shoppers with a dizzying array of choices at deeply discounted prices. The concept is straightforward: buy more now, save more later. But be warned, navigating those packed aisles can feel overwhelming. Don’t get lost in the bulk! Stay sharp and use a few expert tips to uncover those hidden gems throughout the store.
The simple truth: the holidays can be fun but demanding. Allie Echeverria, MS, RD, LD, an expert in modern home economics, recommends diving into the seasonal items as soon as they hit the shelves. “I check seasonal aisles when they are first updated,” she reveals. “It’s barely September, but my local Costco already has Christmas decorations out. I’ve already scoped them out to see what’s new.” Alexander Ketter, Lead Consumer Expert at Coupons.com, concurs: “Frequent the seasonal aisles because they’re regularly updated with unique and limited-time offers. This is where you’ll find some of the best-hidden treasures, whether it’s Christmas, summer, or back-to-school season.”
Early birds truly get the worm at Costco. Kristen Markel, a Costco aficionado known as the voice behind Warehouse Wanderer, emphasizes one crucial tip most members overlook: the Manager’s Special. “Local managers can dramatically slash prices on certain items to move them quickly, often marking them down significantly below the regular cost,” she notes. Her advice: arrive when Costco opens and head straight to the appliance and furniture sections to snag these deeply discounted items. “Handwritten price tags are your golden ticket to great deals. But remember—they’re first come, first served.”
Another pro tip: each Costco stocks different items. If you’re close to multiple warehouses, take the time to explore them. Markel explains, “I recently found sushi at a local Costco—something I’ve never seen before!” While staples like toilet paper, bakery goods, and that legendary rotisserie chicken remain consistent, other products can vary widely.
The pharmacy aisle isn’t just for your prescriptions; it’s a goldmine for savings. “Don’t overlook the surrounding areas of the pharmacy,” advises Ketter. “From premium vitamins and supplements to top-quality protein powders, Costco offers these items at a fraction of the cost you’d pay elsewhere.” He adds that you might even find specialized products like essential oils, massage tools, or yoga gear that aren’t heavily promoted but offer incredible value.
Costco is more than just a shopping trip; it’s a smart, strategic move for those looking to maximize every dollar. Keep these tips close, and you’ll be discovering deals and savings that go beyond the obvious, making your Costco membership well worth it.

I actually find more at Sam’s than at Costco. I like Sam’s better. I buy Ziploc bags which I ship out my items in. Costco does not have those bags. Have to go to Sam’s.
I actually find very little at Costco. Guess it’s up to the individual and what they are looking for.
