January 1, Popular Fast Food Chain Shutters More “Unviable” Stores Across US

Burger King, the iconic home of the Whopper, is shrinking its kingdom, axing more of its outposts across the United States. Restaurant Brands International, the monarch of this fast-food realm, has decreed the closure of between 300 and 400 “unviable” locations.

With a strategy that appears more retreat than advance, 26 Michigan eateries shut down in March, followed by others in Utah and Minnesota in April.

Now, a fresh batch of closures hits Florida, New York, and Nebraska, ending over four decades of service in some locales. In a blow to the Burger King empire, McDonald’s is set to claim at least one New York fortress as its own.

This contraction is part of Burger King’s $400 million “Reclaim the Flame” crusade, which aims to extinguish underperforming outposts while fanning the flames of success at others. CNBC reveals that this strategic culling has borne fruit, with same-store sales jumping 7.2 percent despite a reduction in the number of locations by 2.8 percent.

“We had been behind the industry in terms of our same-store traffic,” admits Restaurant Brands CEO Josh Kobza, heralding the achievement of “flat traffic” as a “big milestone.”

Meanwhile, CFO Matthew Dunningan reports that the company has concentrated on “the most distressed situations,” suggesting a cleanup operation of their commercial portfolio is underway.

With the end of 2023 as their target, Restaurant Brands International is set to conclude its wave of permanent closures.

This contraction sees Burger King’s presence diminish from the 7,105 locations reported by the Motley Fool in 2021, signaling an era of change for the fast-food titan as it seeks to stabilize its reign in the competitive landscape of American quick-service restaurants.

As far as I’m concerned you can shut down the Enid, Oklahoma branch while you’re at it. I don’t care if you shut down ALL Burger King locations because the food has been subpar ever since the 1990’s!

First let me say I loved Burger king food.
I waited two years for them to open one in Grimes, IA 50111.
It was great until all the opening Managers left.
In one month It was terrible,New managers hired kids
with un-washed hair, pants hanging off their ass and
they smelled like no bath in 6 months. I called Corporate
and they come out and fire every one. As soon as the Corp. managers left
same thing happened a gain. Three times and this location closed.

Burger king food is awful. Then when they went Woke, that was the final straw. also, when they started giving money to the Idiots in support of sex changes that stopped a lot more people. Thank God they are hurting, we love it, Go Woke, Go Broke.

You have too many of one thing nothing prospers. High crime has driven a lot of businesses to close and poor judgement in hiring is another reason. Have you ever gone into a fast-food joint and the people are rude and unqualified, are you going to go back there. Probably not. Paying too high a wage for minimal service is another reason. These jobs are supposed to be starter jobs for kids in high school, not career jobs.

We have 1 just down the street you order and then wait 20 min in the store at tables while others are eating their. The one 12 miles away was 100 times better. Not going back.

all these fast food joints are not healthy for my dog much less then for people McD’s is even worse. Cancers did not really show up until the junk food and un healthy fast food came to pass. Look it up the time the fast food came to being and cancer explosion. Besides once a hedge fund takes over what may have been good is not good anymore

I ask for a “Cup of Coffee” at the “Burger King” located in “Nappanee, In”, and was told “We don’t serve Coffee”.

Haven’t been back since, McDonald is just across the street.

When they don’t serve what you want, they lose a lot more than just that “one sell”.

Burger does not look like illustrations. We ordered a family meal and not much in the way of lettuce, onions and meat patty looked like a mistake when browning the bun (liked the bun).
Used to make a great burger but nothing lasts forever, called progress I guess.
Not going back, had a Domino’s pizza the next night, OK…
Also notice no way to communicate feedback to the boss, too bad….

The best burger to have is a homemade burger cooked either in a frying pan or on the BBQ at home….
