Eric Dane, recognized for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan on TV, has passed away at 53. His fight with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, lasted ten months after his diagnosis was made public.

“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” his representative shared.

He spent his last days surrounded by friends, his wife, and his two daughters, Billie and Georgia. Dane’s openness about his condition helped shine a light on ALS and inspired many.

“He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always,” the statement said. “Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”

Dane spoke openly about wanting to help others facing the same fight, saying, “I have been an open book about certain things in my life. This is something I felt compelled to share with people.”

“Not to be overly morbid,” he said. “But you know, if I’m going out, I’m gonna go out helping somebody.”

Even as his health declined, Dane worked to advocate for ALS awareness and supported legislation for research. He is survived by his daughters, Billie and Georgia.
