January 1, New Proposal Targets Dangerous Prisoners Under Supervision

Wyatt’s Take
- Mohamed Bailor Jalloh killed one person and wounded two others at Old Dominion University after serving less than nine years for supporting ISIS.
- Federal probation officers only visited the convicted terrorist twice a year because caseloads have tripled without a matching increase in resources.
- The Safer Supervision Act aims to focus law enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders while rewarding compliant individuals who follow the rules.
The ODU attack should prompt hard questions about how someone with Jalloh’s history was being seen only twice a year.
Supervised release, when applied well, is a genuine public safety tool.
Wyatt Matters
Middle America deserves a justice system that focuses on protecting our families from violent threats rather than checking boxes. When we treat every minor offender like a national security risk, actual terrorists are able to walk our streets unmonitored and unchecked.
