January 1, Disney’s Snow White Remake Flops, Loses Big Money

Wyatt’s Take

  • Disney’s live-action Snow White lost nearly $170 million, not counting marketing.
  • Controversy over the film and its star Rachel Zegler drove away audiences on all sides.
  • Political fights and out-of-touch messaging left Disney’s classic in the red.

Disney’s much-hyped live-action Snow White remake turned into a financial nightmare after production costs hit $336.5 million, with reshoots and expensive changes ballooning its budget. Even after a major UK tax reimbursement, Disney walked away with a staggering loss of about $170 million, not including the money they poured into marketing.

Rachel Zegler, the film’s lead, sparked outrage even before release by attacking former President Trump and his supporters, saying:

“May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace, FCK Trump.”

She also criticized the original 1937 cartoon, calling the prince “a guy who literally stalks her” and insisting the new version would drop the classic romance altogether. Zegler said:

“We absolutely wrote a ‘Snow White’ that . . . she’s not going to be saved by the prince, and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love; she’s going to be dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be.”

The film’s problems got worse when Zegler took sides online, ending one post with “and always remember, free Palestine.” Her views reportedly caused major friction with co-star Gal Gadot, who strongly supports Israel. Both women promoted the movie apart from each other, fueling rumors of a split and adding to the public backlash.

Viewers from every side pushed for boycotts—some angry about Zegler’s anti-Trump words, others mad at Gadot’s background, and many fed up with constant political squabbling instead of family-friendly fun.

Disney made costly eleventh-hour changes, including CGI dwarfs after removing little people actors in favor of so-called “diverse” bandits, then reshot scenes when fans revolted. None of it helped at the box office, making this remake one of the biggest money losers in Hollywood history.

Even new songs and attempts to fix the love story couldn’t save Snow White from sinking. Once a sure thing for Disney, Snow White now stands as proof that pushing politics and ignoring your audience can end in disaster.

Wyatt Matters

Regular folks want timeless stories from Hollywood, not politics and finger-pointing. When the needs of ordinary families come second to ideology, even the giants can fall. This is a lesson in what happens when elites ignore the heartland.

Kathleen Kennedy should always be remembered as the incompetent strong female boss babe that tanked one of America’s most iconic entertainment institutions.
