New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani rolled out what he described as the city’s first municipal strategy to fight antisemitism.

The announcement comes as Jewish leaders and residents accuse him of stoking anti-Israel feelings in the nation’s largest Jewish community.

“We will not tolerate hate in any form,” Mamdani said during the rollout.

Critics point to his past statements and votes that many Jewish voters viewed as hostile to Israel.

“Actions speak louder than press conferences,” one local rabbi told reporters.

City data shows antisemitic incidents have climbed sharply since the October 7 attacks.

Many longtime residents say they no longer feel comfortable wearing visible symbols of their faith in public.

“My grandparents fled real persecution,” said one Brooklyn shop owner. “Now my kids ask if it’s safe to walk to synagogue.”

The mayor’s office claims the new plan will increase funding for security at Jewish institutions and expand education programs.

Opponents argue the money would be better spent on more police and tougher prosecution of actual crimes.
