Wyatt’s Take

  • The DOJ just hit former FBI boss James Comey with a fresh two-count charge for allegedly leaking national defense secrets to the press back in 2016.
  • Comey claims the case is too old to prosecute, but the government says the clock only started when the documents surfaced.
  • This latest round keeps pressure on a man already facing two earlier counts and shows the deep-state leak culture still has consequences.

The Justice Department unsealed a two-count criminal information Monday that accuses James Comey of conspiring to disclose classified national defense information to The New York Times during the heat of the 2016 election season.

Prosecutors say Comey personally directed the leak of sensitive FBI material that had no business reaching the front page of a major newspaper.

“The information was marked classified and concerned ongoing counterintelligence matters,” the filing states.

Comey’s legal team fired back immediately, arguing the charges are time-barred under the statute of limitations.

“This case should have been brought years ago if it had any merit,” Comey’s attorneys wrote in a statement.

The filing marks the third separate criminal action the DOJ has brought against the former FBI director in recent months, each one tied to different episodes of alleged misconduct during his tenure.

Critics on Capitol Hill are calling the pattern a long-overdue reckoning for an agency that once operated with little fear of accountability.

“If the facts hold up, this shows one more example of how the rules were bent for political advantage,” said a senior Republican senator who asked not to be named while the case is active.
