Wyatt’s Take

  • One young man’s choice to secretly record and share an intimate moment shows how quickly trust can be shattered on today’s campuses.
  • Instead of protecting women, some fraternity members seem more focused on cheap laughs and group-chat approval.
  • The victim’s courage in coming forward reminds us that real accountability still matters in Middle America.

Police arrested a 19-year-old after he secretly filmed himself having sex with a University of North Carolina at Charlotte student and then sent the video to his fraternity group chat without her permission.

Officers say Alexander Michael Evanoff used his cellphone on September 19 to record the explicit act, then shared it with 32 members of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity chat.

“During an interview with law enforcement, according to the affidavit, Evanoff allegedly admitted to intentionally recording the sexual act and sending it to the fraternity group chat.”

He also told detectives he never asked the woman for permission to make or distribute the video.

“When the woman confronted Evanoff about the alleged recording, she asked if sending it to the fraternity group chat made him ‘appear cool,’ to which he ‘responded affirmatively’ and apologized.”

Evanoff was booked Monday and released the next day on a $10,000 bond.

A university spokesperson confirmed the suspect is not a student and called the alleged behavior “reprehensible,” adding that it does not reflect the values expected from anyone connected to the campus.
