January 1, NFL’s Paris Game Falls Apart as French Chaos Spreads

Wyatt’s Take
- The NFL’s decision to play in war-torn Paris ignored real safety threats facing everyday Americans abroad.
- French officials have already declared parts of the city off-limits, yet the league pushed forward with its global show.
- Working families in the heartland wonder why our national pastime is being exported into danger zones while domestic issues pile up at home.
The National Football League announced its Saints-Steelers matchup would kick off in Paris, France, this coming season.
Local leaders quickly warned that large sections of the city remain under heavy security restrictions because of ongoing unrest.
Those warnings were brushed aside in favor of ticket sales and global TV rights.
“We have a responsibility to protect our players and fans,” one team source told reporters, but no concrete plan was offered for how that protection would work.
Heartland viewers watching from their living rooms can see the mismatch: an American sport being staged where American citizens are already advised not to travel.
Meanwhile, ticket prices are expected to soar, shutting out the very middle-class supporters the league claims to serve.
Security analysts say the French capital has seen repeated riots and terror alerts in recent months.
Yet the NFL moved ahead, banking on the idea that a football game could somehow rise above the turmoil.
“This is about growing the game,” league officials said in a prepared statement.
Growing it where?
Many longtime fans argue the league should first fix problems at home—skyrocketing player salaries, declining TV ratings, and empty stadium seats in struggling U.S. markets.
Instead, resources are poured into overseas marketing stunts that offer little benefit to domestic audiences.
The Saints-Steelers game is still months away, but unease is already building among season-ticket holders who wonder if their league has lost its way.
Paris streets may be lined with barricades, but the bigger barrier is the growing disconnect between the NFL’s boardroom ambitions and the concerns of everyday Americans who simply want a safe, affordable Sunday afternoon at the stadium.
Wyatt Matters
Middle America still believes our sports should reflect our values—safety, fairness, and putting citizens first—rather than chasing foreign spectacle at any cost.

What happens when the players value their lives & families more than this BS going on and decide to boycott or have a “Sick Out” and not go? This is the stupidest NFL decision arrived at especially since they’ve had months to decide.
If something “bad” happens to a player or their family, you can kiss the ownership of these two teams good-bye. Where is the players union right now?

I’m with Renner on this one. There’s nothing the NFL won’t do to make a buck! It’s really quite pathetic.

The idiot that is in charge of the NFL I won’t mention his name overpaid AH and the team owners should be held liable if anything happens to any player

How has it fallen apart exactly? I don’t see how the wording of this article was very smart, either that or I don’t understand what ‘falling apart’ means. Are they unable to sell tickets? Are they unable to get to the stadium, unable to protect fans, unable to protect players and the media? I see nothing in there about it falling apart….Oh, I get it, I get that it’s risky, and all the rest but I see nothing ‘falling apart’ yet. How about, ‘NFL’s Paris game could fall apart as French chaos continues’….
