January 1, Police Unveil Preliminary Findings in Barcelona Student Drowning Case

Wyatt’s Take
- Security footage shows Gracey walking alone onto a dock before falling into the sea.
- Police say his body was found near the nightclub with injuries consistent with hitting rocks.
- Reports include his phone being found with a local man with no foul play alleged.
A tragic spring break trip has ended in every parent’s worst nightmare for one Illinois family. James Gracey, a 20-year-old student at the University of Alabama, died after falling into the water near a Spanish nightclub.
Gracey had been enjoying a night out with friends at a popular venue along the Mediterranean coast. Authorities state his wallet was found intact with cash and cards still inside.
The preliminary autopsy report points to accidental drowning as the primary cause of death. Final results are expected later this week to confirm these initial findings.
Questions remain regarding the safety of the port district where the incident occurred. Reports indicated a tourist was robbed in the same area just one night prior.
Wyatt Matters
This tragedy reminds Middle America families to stay vigilant and support one another when the unexpected strikes. We’re praying for Gracey’s loved ones as they process a loss far too early.
