Wyatt’s Take

  • The NFL fined Nick Bosa for a MAGA hat but let Azeez Al-Shaair off for his eyeblack message.
  • The rules say no personal messages, but enforcement seems one-sided.
  • Middle Americans see more proof that the league picks favorites when it comes to politics.

The NFL handed out fines to eight players for roughness and bad behavior after the Wild Card games, but ignored Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair’s obvious rules violation. Al-Shaair wore eyeblack reading “Stop the Genocide” throughout the game and on national TV during his ESPN interview.

Even though the NFL has a clear rule barring personal messages on the field, there was no fine or penalty for Al-Shaair, skipping the usual $11,593 first-offense fee.

Muslim advocacy group CAIR praised Al-Shaair, saying he used his platform “to express opposition to genocide during [Monday] night’s primetime football game.”

Meanwhile, last season, the NFL fined San Francisco 49ers’ Nick Bosa over $11,000 just for wearing a MAGA hat after a game. Bosa got the fine for violating the very same rule about personal messages visible to fans and TV viewers.

“Stop the Genocide” has become a chant at pro-Palestinian protests about Israel’s military actions and the war in Gaza, fueling heated debate everywhere it appears.

The league didn’t explain why Al-Shaair avoided punishment while Bosa did not. That kind of lopsided discipline leaves plenty of fans scratching their heads and wondering about double standards.

Middle America’s football lovers are left questioning if the NFL’s priorities lie more with coastal politics than with fairness on the field.

Wyatt Matters

Fairness matters out here. Folks just want everyone to play by the same rules, no special treatment for some and not others. That’s the foundation this country was built on, and it’s what keeps our faith real in every part of life — even football.
