Charlie Kirk, a well-known conservative, strongly supported the death penalty for murderers, not just in the worst cases. This debate is back in the spotlight after Kirk was killed on a Utah college campus.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox said the state plans to seek the death penalty if the suspect, Tyler Robinson, goes to trial.

President Trump made his opinion clear, saying he hopes Robinson gets the death penalty if he’s found guilty.

Earlier this year, Kirk faced tough questions about his position on capital punishment from a student in a Turning Point USA video.

“I believe that someone who took a life should have their life taken,” Kirk said plainly.

The student asked if Kirk meant always, to which Kirk replied, “Under most, yeah.” When pushed, Kirk questioned why killing one was so less serious than killing many.

He explained, “We as conservatives try to strive for blind justice. … Those on the left will argue for social justice.”

Kirk also said on his podcast that death sentences should be “public, should be quick. It should be televised.” He and his co-hosts even spoke about what age children should see executions, hoping it might cut down on crime.

Kirk, 31, was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University.

He leaves behind a wife and child, and his death has hit many Americans hard.
