January 1, Senate Turns Against Trump Tariffs in Close Vote
Wyatt’s Take
- The Senate voted 51-47 to stop President Trump’s tariffs.
- A few Republicans joined with Democrats to support this move.
- The bill likely won’t become law since the House is Republican-controlled.
The Senate decided by a tight margin to try to bring President Trump’s tariffs to an end.
Several Republicans — including Mitch McConnell, Rand Paul, Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowski — voted alongside Democrats to back the bill.
The plan faces a roadblock because Republicans run the House, and the Senate can’t likely overcome a Trump veto if it ever gets that far.
Even while some in Congress push back, President Trump has cut trade deals with major countries, like the UK, EU, Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam.
Many still wonder if the president truly has the power to put these tariffs in place, yet new trade agreements are already shaping up.
Let your voice be heard on how Congress should handle tariffs and trade with the rest of the world.
Wyatt Matters
For folks living in the heartland, trade policies hit home. Food on the table, steady work, and fair markets matter most. It’s about making sure American workers aren’t sold short by deals made far from Main Street.
