January 1, Pennsylvania Pushes Extreme Abortion Laws, Pro-Lifers Alarmed
Wyatt’s Take
- Pennsylvania lawmakers push for legal abortion until birth.
- Bills could block pro-lifers and shield abortionists from prosecution.
- Pro-life voices urge citizens to act before it’s too late.
Pennsylvania’s House Judiciary Committee is set to consider bills that could let abortion happen right up until birth, while protecting those who perform abortions and bringing women across state lines to end pregnancies here. The main proposal, HB 1957, would make abortion a state constitutional right and wipe out almost every restriction currently on the books.
If these measures pass, Pennsylvania would see taxpayer money fund late-term abortion, eliminate waiting periods and cut out requirements that women hear about risks or options before an abortion. Abortionists would get sweeping legal shields, while pro-life activists would face stiff penalties for even talking to women outside clinics.
Maria Gallagher from the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation sounded the alarm:
“These bills are incredibly bad for women and babies in Pennsylvania; they would do everything from establish taxpayer funding of abortion to establishing late term abortions, to taking away the 24-hour waiting period for abortion, to taking away the counseling requirements for abortion. And what that would mean, is that women would not be told the risks of abortion or alternatives to abortion before an abortion takes place. This is really turning back the clock on protections for pregnant women and their babies.”
Other bills in the package further block pro-lifers by silencing sidewalk counselors, hiding abortion records from investigations, and making sure doctors and clinics can’t be punished for abortion work. By stripping basic safeguards, these bills would return Pennsylvania to dark days, echoing scandals like those seen in Philadelphia’s past.
Pro-life groups are calling on everyday Pennsylvanians to reach out to lawmakers and show up at the Capitol hearing. The fight isn’t just over policy, but over what kind of state Pennsylvania wants to be.
Wyatt Matters
This is a clear sign that everyday folks can’t assume their voices don’t matter—when politicians try to sweep away commonsense protections for mothers and babies, it’s on us to stand up and say enough. Heartland families know life is precious, and we shouldn’t let lawmakers erase that truth from our laws.
