Shedeur Sanders isn’t backing down, even as he sits third on the Cleveland Browns quarterback depth chart. He’s confident he can outperform some of the league’s current starters and says he’s always ready if the team calls his number.

“I know if you see the quarterback play in the league right now, I know I’m capable of doing better than that,” Sanders told ESPN Cleveland.

Sanders is behind veteran Joe Flacco and rookie Dillon Gabriel, who was drafted two rounds earlier. He’s preparing each day, staying focused and not letting his spot on the roster shake his resolve.

“I don’t think playing or not playing is in my hands. I think based on the situation, if things pan out where I play, then I’ll be out there ready to play. I’m ready to play right now,” he said.

His father, Deion Sanders, shared on a recent podcast that he believes Shedeur will get his opportunity at some point this season. Deion advised his son to “be patient and be ready” for when the Browns need him.

The Browns drafted Shedeur with hopes for future development, as Flacco fills in until a rookie steps up. For now, the coaching staff lists Gabriel ahead, but it’s a long season and anything can happen in the NFL.
