Wyatt’s Take

  • An Ohio Chick-fil-A now requires teens under 17 to visit with an adult.
  • The new rule aims to curb rowdy behavior inside the restaurant.
  • Parents and local customers are reacting strongly to this change.

Chick-fil-A in Kettering, Ohio has put a controversial new policy in place. Starting last week, the store won’t let anyone under 17 inside unless they’re with an adult, after trouble caused by unaccompanied teenagers.

Store leaders say unsupervised teens were getting out of hand. There were reports of broken furniture and loud disruptions, leading to complaints from customers.

“It’s our pleasure to serve you,” the store said in a public statement.

“However, unruly behavior from groups of youth has gotten out of control.”

Some parents see the rule as unfair. Others think it’s just good sense to restore order and keep families comfortable while eating out.

There is always some sorriness happening by a few which ruins the peace for many. The cafe can not be blamed for hateful, rude, arrogant, pompous teens or other.

I blame the parents of these radical teens who disrupt businesses. When I was a manager at a local retail business I had a group of teens upset clothing racks in a nearby store. When they approached my store I locked the doors. Its the way they are raised. No discipline from either parent.

This is good. If parents do no train their children to act properly, then the adults in place must step in to curtail those outrageous behaviors, and that is how it is.

Ever since parents were discouraged from spanking (not beating) their kids, the youth has been getting in more and more trouble because there’s no consequences for bad behavior. “Spare the rod…” adage made perfect sense. Also, parents don’t seem to have enough time to spend with their kids. Everyone is plugged in to their electronic devices and not paying attention what their “little darlings” are up to. They expect the schools and public spaces to babysit their kids because they can’t be bothered. There’s no sit down family meals at dinnertime so everyone can discuss their day. Don’t have kids if you can’t accept the responsibility that goes along with it.

Are the parents of these kids any better trained or do they have to kick them all out?

I don’t care what your age if you can’t act like a decent human being in a public setting of any kind stay the F out.

Parents won’t discipline their kids so they run amok and act like idiots. Every local business should do the same and tell the local press that, as long as the destructive behaviour continues, the restrictions stay in place.
And ‘rowdy’ will always refer to Rowdy Yates.
