January 1, Biden Task Force Tackling Fake Videos: Is the Conspiracy Real or Ridiculous?

The Biden campaign has reportedly formed a special task force to combat the impact of “cheap fake” videos that show President Joe Biden malfunctioning in public. White House aides have grown increasingly concerned about such videos and have started disputing with their media allies over the coverage of Biden’s age, gaffes, and moments of confusion.

A recent example of a “cheap fake” occurred on Sunday when a video surfaced of former President Barack Obama leading Biden off stage after the president appeared to freeze at a fundraiser. Another video from June 13 showed Biden wandering away from a group of world leaders in Europe before being turned back by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

A third video displayed Vice President Kamala Harris and her allies dancing at a Juneteenth event, while Biden appeared to stare blankly with an empty smile on his face.

The task force was established to “mitigate the risks” posed by these videos, according to a Biden official who spoke to a well-known political publication. The official also emphasized that social media companies and media allies have a responsibility to diminish the impact of such videos.

Biden campaign spokesperson Mia Ehrenberg stated, “Voters deserve accurate information to inform their choice this November, and our campaign will be vigilant in calling out these lies when we see them.” She added, “We hope media organizations and others with influential platforms follow our lead.”

However, not everyone is convinced by the “cheap fake” argument. When confronted with these videos, critics have accused the Biden campaign of making “ridiculous claims” and being part of a “media-wide conspiracy.”
