January 1, Supreme Court Dismisses Trump’s Appeal
The Supreme Court rejected former President Donald Trump’s appeal in his dispute with congressional investigators seeking access to White House records as part of a House panel’s investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
The court’s latest decision came in a brief unsigned order issued without comment.
It reportedly ends Trump’s legal effort to prevent the House panel from obtaining a batch of his administration’s records, including schedules, call logs and emails.
The order leaves intact a lower federal appeals court ruling that denied Trump’s assertion of executive privilege.
According to The Hill, the Jan. 6 committee has not established a hard deadline for completing its investigation, but chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) has said the panel hopes to wrap up by early spring.
