Wyatt’s Take

  • Philadelphia’s season has fallen apart without its starting quarterback
  • Washington showed discipline and capitalized on every Eagles mistake
  • Penalties and turnovers continue to cost the Birds in big games

The Philadelphia Eagles started fast Sunday night but then gave up twenty-seven straight points in a loss to the Washington Commanders. Philadelphia fell behind after an early ten-point lead and never recovered.

Jake Elliott opened the scoring with a forty-yard field goal. Saquon Barkley followed with a three-yard touchdown run after a Washington turnover. The Eagles never scored again.

Washington answered with a fifty-six-yard field goal late in the first quarter. Jayden Daniels then found Stefon Diggs for an eight-yard touchdown. Drew Stevens added another kick before halftime to give the Commanders a thirteen to ten lead.

Philadelphia has no answers without Jalen Hurts. Tanner McKee struggled all night, holding the ball too long and turning it over twice. Washington stacked the box and held Barkley to just thirty yards on thirteen carries.

The turning point came in the third quarter when Dorance Armstrong strip-sacked McKee. Charles Omenihu recovered the fumble and Daniels hit Treylon Burks for fifty-three yards on the next play. Stevens kicked a twenty-five-yard field goal to extend the lead.

Philadelphia drove into scoring position in the fourth quarter but an illegal formation penalty wiped out a thirty-six-yard field goal attempt. Elliott missed wide right on the next try.

Washington closed it out with a forty-two-yard field goal and a late interception. Rachaad White broke off a thirty-three-yard run and scored from a yard out. Austin Ekeler ran in the two-point conversion to make the final score twenty-seven to ten.

Daniels finished with two hundred seventeen passing yards, one touchdown, and no turnovers. The Eagles have now lost six straight games and sit at two and six. Washington improved to two and four and one.
