January 1, Winter Storm Triggers Record Flight Chaos

Wyatt’s Take
- Massive winter storm causes flight disruptions.
- Northeast braces for up to 2 feet of snow.
- Power outages hit nearly a million Americans.
A major winter storm has slammed the country, causing airlines to cancel almost 14,000 flights since Saturday. Most of these cancellations happened on Sunday, making it one of the hardest days for air travelers since the pandemic.
The storm is dropping heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain from the Rockies all the way to New England. Cities like Washington, New York, and Boston could see 1 to 2 feet of snow before it’s over.
Power outages are hitting hard, leaving around 1 million folks in Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana in the dark. None of this looks to let up soon for folks in the affected areas.
Travelers should expect more delays and trouble until the weather clears. Hazardous roads and grounded planes are making it tough for working families trying to get where they need to go.
Wyatt Matters
Winter storms like this remind us how quickly daily life can be disrupted, and how important reliable power and travel are for working families across Middle America.
