A recent Washington Post column argues that Muslims in the United States should not have to blend in with the cultural mainstream.
The author claims that requiring a minority group to converge with broad American values is a premise he no longer accepts.
“The assimilation defense — look how well we’ve integrated — is satisfying to make. But it concedes a premise I no longer accept.”
He argued that the right tells groups to blend in or leave, while the left celebrates them only if they change.
He believes this puts pressure on people to abandon the traditions that make their communities unique.
“Islam shapes how its adherents think about family, sexuality and what it means to live a good life. Simply put, Islam is also a more public religion than Christianity.”
The piece concluded by suggesting America was founded on the idea that people who disagree about God could share a country without ever agreeing.
It questions if the nation will let different groups change on their own terms instead of forcing them.

Middle America has always stood for a shared culture that helps keep the country strong and united. When communities stop expecting common values, the nation can begin to feel more divided and less like one people.

Complete nonsense. Islam is only superficially a religion; at its core it is an ideology, like communism, socialism, or fascism. Religions seek to convince; islam’s goal is to compel – and to conquer by any means necessary – be that shaming, abuse, demographic flooding of its host countries – or ultimately, force. Always force. As Churchill said, when muslims are in the minority they are concerned with minority rights. When they are in the majority, there are no minority rights. This cancer needs to be brought under control, and I mean NOW. One only need look at Europe to see where we’re heading at breakneck speed.

Don’t forget, he was also a pedophile. One of his “wives” was only 6 years old when they supposedly married. He had sex with her when she was 9 years old. How sick is that? And muslims believe he was a prophet. I don’t remember ever reading where Jesus had sex with a 9 year old.

Very true. Muslims have no problem murdering a female member of their homes for the slightest reasons, not wearing that headrag in public, refusing to marry the 80 year old lecher that their fathers tell them to marry, disobeying their brothers, fathers, uncles or basically any other male on earth that believes as they do, and the list goes on and on. Pretty sure that goes against every law we have.

What a ridiculous and stupid statement. It is a travesty to believe that people coming to this country should not embrace the culture of our country. To say they can come in and embrace their culture is ridiculous. When ae people going to see what has happened in Europe and the effect it has had there. Europe is a mess and will never be the same. They will never recover and this is what one party wants here. look at the unhinged lawlessness that has taken over this country. Our country has opened the floodgates of an illegal immigration crisis and our judicial system has been compromised and we are headed down the same path. Protesters being paid to protest in the streets by a particular party. Judges and district attorney failing to prosecute them. This is by design people and you better wake up.

My problem is that they should NOT HOLD any government seats! They don’t assimilate and they cause problems in our government LIKE THE FRAUD we are seeing created by OMAR in Minnesota! She was the one who was publicly supporting and organizing the FEED THE FUTURE BILL! I don’t want ANYONE whose religion say I must die because I do not believe in ALLAH! Sure, and if you don’t adhere to Islamic ‘values’ you will die!! And for family ‘values’, either you obey the male in it completely, you get the prize of either being beat to death or close to it!! Sexual ‘values’ mean a woman can be raped and married at the ripe old age of 9! And what a ‘good’ life you will live going back 10,000 years to a more uncivilized time.

Countries have identities. If you just allow people to live here who don’t fit that identity, you cease to be that country. It’s like you want to make a mild shake. You start with ice cream and milk. But then you add ketchup, chicken, salt, carrots, broccoli, hummus, and you don’t have a milk shake anymore. We believe that humans are created equal and have a right to life. Islam does not believe that. We believe in freedom of religion, Islam does not. There are 50 Muslim countries in the world where they practice Islam freely. There is none you would want to move to or even visit. They hate the West and they want to change it. They don’t belong here and need to leave.

Do as the Japanese have done, no mosques, no call to prayer, and no sharia law, if that is what they want the shouls have stayed where they were. Yes our constitution says freedom of religion, but I think it is time for Congress to amend that so that it does not require a change to the laws governing the country as it was founded. Otherwise accept no more muslims into the country in our immigration system or have them commit to assimilation on those conditions.

Customs and practices are one part of assimilation. The part that is incompatible with our Western values is that these are not merely “guidelines” but part of Sharia LAW. A law usually has provisions for punishment that should not be tolerated in civilized society. The point the Iranian woman speaking in the Fox News broadcast is that many who practice Islam do not believe in the extremism followed by the current regime. Perhaps that is true, but then why do Muslims not speak out vehemently when these atrocities are carried out? Fear perhaps, but then again, what does that say about the practice of Islam in general?

I was not as surprised by leftists in the US being pro-Muslim because as a former History teacher, our schools have been degraded and kids sucked at History. However, I was shocked that Britain (which I have also lived in) let so many Muslims in. Did Britain forget it’s own history of the Crusades??? How could they not remember that?
This is WHY History is a main subject in school and needs to remain so over other BS courses.
Those who forget history are doomed to repeat the mistakes.

Assimilation = Sociology/Culture: Immigrants may undergo cultural assimilation, adopting the language, customs, and norms of their new country. This does not mean that anyone has to abandon their customs or religion. It also does not mean that the host country must adopt these and abandon its own culture. Another day, another lie. ROMFs
