Wyatt’s Take

  • The White House says mass federal layoffs are likely if Democrats push a shutdown.
  • President Trump won’t fund health care for illegal immigrants as Democrats demand.
  • Millions have already left or been deported since Trump returned to office.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt warned Monday that a government shutdown would lead to major job losses. She said Democrats, by holding up a spending bill, would bear the blame if funding runs out.

“There will be [layoffs] if Democrats don’t keep the government open,” Leavitt said during the daily press briefing.

The House passed a bill to keep the government running, but the Senate blocked it. Leavitt said President Trump is urging Democrat leaders to talk with him at the White House to work out a deal and avoid job losses.

“We are nearing a government shutdown; we are nearing a funding deadline. The president wants to make this deadline. He wants to keep this government open.”

Trump says he will not give extra money for health care for illegal immigrants, a demand some Democrats are making. He remains focused on his deportation efforts instead of making these concessions.

At least two million people have either left the country or been deported since Trump returned to office.

Folks in the heartland get hit the hardest when Washington can’t keep its house in order. Families and workers depend on steady paychecks, not political games.
