Critics mocked Vice President Kamala Harris for comments she made after meeting with Andrew Holness, the prime minister of Jamaica.

After her meeting with Holness, which commemorated the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the U.S. and the island nation, Harris told reporters that they discussed a range of topics, including the coronavirus pandemic.

“For Jamaica, one of the issues that has been presented as an issue that is economic in the way its impact has been the pandemic. … We will assist Jamaica in COVID recovery by assisting in terms of the recovery efforts in Jamaica that have been essential,” Harris told reporters.

A video of Harris’ remarks made the rounds on social media, garnering mockery from critics.

“Oh Boy,” one user tweeted. “Her term papers in college must have been a blast to read. ‘While the effort to assist is essential, our effort in assisting will be of the most essential!’”

“Damn! Poor Jamaica!” another wrote. “After this speech, administration released a caveat that assistance will only be provided if they understood and can explain back what the Vice President said!”
